Conclusion
OptiCompo is an alternative
hardware company that takes pride in creating
interfaces and add-ons that they themselves are
passionate about. It is satisfying to review a
solid product from a lesser-known company; to
stray from the "big-names." In all fairness,
OptiCompo's POFP is a solid add-on that performs
as advertised, nothing more, nothing less.
Installation:
9.0
Installation itself was a snap, as the instruction
manual was concise and to the point. It also had
helpful images to make sure you get it right the
first time. The POFP is fastened in the same way
as any standard 5 1/4 " bay device.
Documentation:
8.0
Documentation came in the form of the 10-page
manual, which as I mentioned before was quite
informal. The occasional smiley face was a comforting
and friendly indication of the company's goodwill.
;) There could have been a bit more detail involved
in each step however.
Performance:
9.5
The POFP performs as it should. All ports do exactly
what they are supposed to, and the nothing is
out of the ordinary here.
Features/Innovation:
9.0
The features are pretty standard as far as an
audio-interface is concerned. The ports included
are the standard ports for high-quality recording
that are not available directly on the back of
the soundcard. As far as innovation is concerned,
there is nothing new here.
Support:
7.5
OptiCompo
is a German company, which makes this category
difficult. The website has a FAQ for help along
with minor updates and notes for the products
not printed in the manuals. You can contact OptiComp
by email as well (also available at the site).
Availability:
6.0
The POFP is available in Europe, and thus an international
shipment is required to the states. OptiCompo
is a small company, and it is unlikely that U.S.
retailers would carry the product. There is a
link on OptiCompo's site, however, to optiBits,
a European based store that ships internationally.
All prices are in Euros, though.
Overall:
(8.775/10.000)
